Vera Sturmann, resident of Massapequa for 36 years

Vera E. Sturmann, of Massapequa, where she has resided for the past 36 years, died suddenly at her home, March 21, 2001 at the age of 70. Born in Eisleben, Germany, November 12, 1930, Mrs. Sturmann was a Professor of comparative literature at Hofstra University at the time of her death. She had been employed at Hofstra for over 20 years. A PhD, she was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Her husband, Wilfried, to whom she had been married for 36 years, survives, as does her son, Kai M., M.D. and his partner Mary Ryan, M.D. of Massapequa; his daughter Anette and her spouse Patrick Howard, also of Massapequa; three grandchildren, Mireille Sturmann, Margot Howard and Kyle Sturmann.

The Reverend David Anglin, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Amityville conducted the funeral service at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, Friday evening, March 23, 2001. Private cremation took place Saturday morning, March 24 at the L.I. Cremation Company, West Babylon. Arrangements were under the direction of the Powell Funeral Home.
