Massapequa High School students selected for
2005 Vytra Cup All-Star Hockey Squad

Andrew Marino

Andrew Marino, a senior; Rob Pfeiffer, a junior and Vinny Schieda, a sophomore at Massapequa High School, were named to the Nassau County high school hockey all-star squad that faced off against Suffolk County in the 9th Annual Vytra Cup on February 17 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. Marino, Pfeiffer and Schieda are residents of Massapequa.

Sponsored by Vytra Heath Plans, the New York Islanders and Newsday, the event began with pre-game ceremonies, followed by the official competition. A mini-game between periods was scheduled for junior varsity players. An awards ceremony followed immediately after the competition.

In addition, a special raffle was held to benefit All Island Handicapped Sports, a non-profit organization that runs programs for physically challenged children, some of whom compete in the Special Olympics.

Marino,Pfeiffer and Schieda play forward on the Massapequa Chiefs.

The Vytra Cup has become a premier scouting opportunity for area college programs, and this year’s game takes on added significance as a talent showcase because two local colleges, Briarcliff College (Bethpage) and SUNY Farmingdale, inaugurated hockey programs in the 2004-2005 season.
