Massapequa Park, NY 11762

Pretty, well landscaped homes grace Massapequa Park's residential strets and make it one of the most sought after communities in which to live and raise a family in Nassau County.

Massapequa Park is an Incorporated Village located within the Township of Oyster Bay. It is 2.2 square miles in area and has a population of about 17,843 (Jan. 1999). The land designated Massapequa Park was carved out of central Massapequa and is bordered by Southern State Parkway on the north, and the Great South Bay and Bar Harbor on the south.

In 1656, Indian Chief Sachem Tackapausha gave white men a deed to the land that would become Massapequa Park. In the 19th century, families of German descent lived in the area, calling it, "Stadtwurtemburg."

In the 1920s, the plot took shape as a real estate development, and evolved into an Irish neighborhood known as "Massapequa Gardens." In 1929 the name was changed to "Massapequa Park," and in October of 1931 it became an incorporated village.

Peter Colleran and Michael J. Brady, two of the three partners in the real estate venture, became the village’s first mayor and justice.
