The SEA Fund, or Save Environmental Assets, is a proposed $30 million environmental bond issue. If approved by the voters of the Town of Oyster Bay, an environmental bond fund would be established exclusively for the acquisition, preservation and protection of environmentally sensitive land, as well as the enhancement of park and recreational facilities. The new roof installation at Old Grace Church is nearing completion. Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt joined with his fellow trustees of the Historical Society of the Massapequas to brief State Senator Chuck Fuschillo on the progress of the new roof for the Massapequa landmark. The church, the headquarters of the Historical Society, was in dire need of a new roof. Legislator Schmitt involved State Senator Fuschillo and thanks to a grant that Fuschillo secured for the Society the roof is now in place. "A new roof was way beyond the resources of the Historical Society," said Legislator Schmitt. "Chuck Fuschillo was there for Massapequa when we needed him, and on behalf of all of our residents, we say thank you Senator Fuschillo." More...

• Carl H. Kettelhack, 87, a former resident of Amityville
Carl H. Kettelhack, a resident of Amityville for nearly 50 years, died at Broadlawn Manor Nursing Care Center, Amityville, on October 9, 2000. He was 87. Born in West New York, New Jersey on August 21, 1913, Mr. Kettelhack was formerly employed as a commercial artist for Fairchild Hiller in Farmingdale for more than 20 years. After his retirement in 1972, he assisted his wife, a well known local artist, with her art shows. Mr. Kettelhack was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 3rd Tactical Air Division of the 3rd Air Force, where he was a draftsman. Serving from February 1943, he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant in February of 1946. He earned the American Service Medal the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. More...
