Meetings set on Town’s environmental bond plan Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto announced that the Town will conduct public information meetings to discuss the proposed SEA Fund, an environmental referendum to be voted on this Election Day, Tuesday, November 7.
Town Councilwoman Bonnie Eisler
The SEA Fund, or Save Environmental Assets, is a proposed $30 million environmental bond issue. If approved by the voters of the Town of Oyster Bay, an environmental bond fund would be established exclusively for the acquisition, preservation and protection of environmentally sensitive land, as well as the enhancement of park and recreational facilities.
"On Election Day, the voters will have an important decision to make about the environmental future of their Town," said Supervisor Venditto. "The community meetings will allow voters to make a knowledgeable decision by posing questions directly to Town officials and learning all they can about the SEA Fund.
"The resolution to put this matter before the voters on Election Day has the unanimous support of the Town Board," Supervisor Venditto added. "It’s
now up to the voters to have the final say on this important environmental matter."
The community meeting is open to the public and will be held Thursday, October 26, at Marjorie R. Post Community Center, Unqua Road and Merrick Road, Massapequa, 7 p.m.
A second meeting will be held Wednesday, November 1, at Town Hall North, 54 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay, 7 p.m.
"The Town Board’s long-standing commitment to preserving and protecting our environment has contributed to making the Town among the greatest places to live anywhere," Supervisor Venditto said. "Putting the SEA Fund on the ballot this Election Day gives every voter a direct voice in the environmental future of their community."
In addition to the community meetings, Supervisor Venditto said residents can obtain more information on the SEA Fund by visiting the Town’s Web site at www.town-of-oyster-bay.org or requesting a SEA Fund brochure by calling the Town’s Public Information Office at 624-6380.
