The Massapequa American Legion Post 1066 is undertaking a major venture to build a Memorial honoring members of the Post—the POW’s/MIA’s and all the men and women of the armed forces who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of their country. The American Legion Post hopes to have the memorial built in time for Memorial Day 2001, and a special ceremony on the Post grounds and a parade is planned. All Post members, veterans groups, Gold Star Mothers, public officials and the public are invited. But to make the memorial a reality, the Legion is seeking the financial support of the Massapequa community. The goal is to raise $30,000 to erect this permanent Memorial. Heading up the Memorial Committee is Past Commander Louis D. Ulino. The memorial will be in the garden area of Post 1066, at 66 Veterans Blvd., Massapequa. "These veterans died for their country and are deserving of this memorial," said Ulino. Anyone who would like to contribute to the memorial fund can do so by sending a check to Chairman Louis D. Ulino, 1066, 297 N. Boston Ave., North Massapequa, NY 11758. Checks should be made out to Massapequa Post 1066. |
