When will the board meet to deal with the Park Ave. project?

Dear Editor:

Another outrage was perpetuated on the AUFSD taxpayers and students, this time at the BOE meeting on March 3. Once again, four board members refused to hold administration responsible for not doing what they were publicly instructed to do on February 28. Those who attended the February 28 meeting will recall the BOE directing administration to contact the construction manager and architect for the Park Avenue renovation project to find out their availability for attending a community information and input meeting to be held at the high school as soon as possible. At the March 8 meeting, administration admitted that they did not contact the construction manager and architect as instructed to get the possible dates. Only three board members were outraged.

The apparent deficiencies in the brickwork, roofing and timeliness of the project are obvious to most community members, and it was with a sense of urgency that Trustees Cahaney, Andrews and I suggested this meeting. Unfortunately, the other four board members seem to be reluctant to hold such a meeting and thus their unwillingness to provide the community with a date to hold this meeting. After serious "teeth-pulling" we were able to get two possible dates for the Board’s availability: March 19 and 27. Who knows it the construction manager and architect will be available.

How much longer will the community tolerate these delays and apparent lack of concern by certain elected officials?
