Gilbert W. Miller, Cablevision executive and MPK resident
Gilbert W. Miller, a resident of Massapequa Park since 1971 and an executive vice president of sports development at Cablevision, died at his home February 15, 2001. He was 73.
Mr. Miller was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Paul and Jenny Miller. He attended City College in in Manhattan and graduated with a degree in advertising.
In 1956, Mr. Miller married Marilyn Modes. They made their home on Long Island, first in North Bellmore in 1961 and then in Massapequa Park where they raised their three daughters.
He was described by his family and colleagues as the world’s greatest salesman who never took no for an answer. He used those traits as an ad salesman for quick Frozen Foods in Manhattan and later with HR Radio. He was vice president of sports sales at Katz Radio and started his own company, Gil Miller Sports Enterprises in Manhattan. After ten years of selling advertisements for sports internationally, he joined Cablevision. His daughter Ronna L. Sanchez of Greeley, Colorado said her father was a hard worker who always gave "150 percent.
"That’s why he was successful," said Sanchez.
In his spare time, Mr. Miller enjoyed photography and caring for the family’s nine cats. He also traveled abroad.
In addition to his daughter, Mr. Miller is survived by his two other daughters, Beverly Hornstein and Paula Miller, both of Flushing. Two granddaughters, Marisa and Bianca Sanchez of Greeley, Colorado also survive him. His wife predeceased him in 1978.
Mr. Miller was buried in Wellwood Cemetery, Pinelawn. Donations in his name may be made to the Jewish Heritage Center, 68-29 Main St., Flushing, NY 11367, or to the Massapequa Animal Hospital, 41-86 Sunrise Hwy., Massapequa, NY 11758.
