Massapequa Park attorney honored by the Nassau County Bar Association

Peter T. Affatato, a Massapequa Park resident and attorney was honored recently for his years of service to the Nassau County Bar Association. He was the recipient of the Gold Medallion award, the highest award that can be given to an attorney from the Nassau County Bar Association.

Affatato, 77, practices injury law. He attended St. John’s University Law School in Jamaica, Queens from 1947 until 1949 and currently has a private practice in Bethpage. He has been representing clients in the Nassau County Supreme Court for 50 years, which makes him the oldest trial lawyer in Nassau County.

Still active in many associations such as the New York State Bar Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers, he has been the past Chairman and current member of the Committee on character and fitness by Appellate Division Second Judicial Department, in which he was admitted in 1975.

For about five years, he was a member on the Grievance Committee by Appellate Division Second Judicial Department.

The award was given, Thursday, March 8, at Carltun on the Park in Westbury.

"I was very honored and very happy to have received the award. There were many judges and lawyers in attendance," said Affatato.

In addition to Affatato’s appointments and affiliations, he does community service, some of which include blood drives, Boy Scout campaigns, and he visits the Veterans Hospital with the Elks once a month.

When not representing clients or working for his community, Affatato enjoys golfing and boating. He has been a resident of Massapequa Park since 1948, where he currently lives with his wife of 53 years, Irene. The couple have two daughters.
