Where are the flags?

Dear Editor,

I am dismayed about the relatively small number of American Flags that are being displayed in our community.

Almost every home in our town spares no expense to decorate for holiday festivities. Millions of lights are hung while decorations practically litter our streets. At other times of the year our lawns are kept professionally tailored and plants are feed until they are bursting with flowers.

On September 11, millions of us were damaged. Thousands died. Thousands are now valiantly attempting at what seems to be an impossible task. And it seems that in order to step on those cowardly bugs there will be more death among us.

Everyone is saying how wonderful we are in our togetherness. How strong we are and how we will defeat those cowards. We stand united!

However, as I drive through Massapequa Park, I don’t see more than a few houses adorned with our Flag. Where are the Flags? Did we give them to those that are digging through the rubble? (They were able to find some! )

Are we too lazy to display the Flag?

Where are the flags? Why can’t I see them! Why must I watch dead-tired firemen from around the country to see some of our flags?

Lou Puglia, Massapequa

Editor’s Note: Since this letter was written, many more residents have purchased and are displaying the American flag.
