It’s time to break deadlock on Liberty and act responsibly
The problem of cleaning up the Liberty site by the Environmental Protection Agency has federal officials in a Catch-22. By statute, Superfund sites must be cleaned up according to their zoning, with residential zoning requiring the highest level of remediation. Industrial or commercial sites, which will be used for those purposes, do not require the costlier clean up by nature of the use dictated by their zoning.
