Winifred Mae Caldron Bunn died October 24, 2002 at her home in Amityville. She was born June 7, 1923 in Babylon and moved to Amityville in 1951. She worked as a nurses aide at the Brunswick Medical Center for 21 years, retiring about 20 years ago, as well as being the treasurer of the Susan J. Ward Missionary Society.

"Winnie," as she was known to friends, was remembered for her famous Shirley Temple impressions and warm sense of humor. Her daughter Stephanie said that on her 65th birthday she threw a party with one stipulation: you had to be under 10 to enter. "The adults had to dress like children to get in," Stephanie said.

Stephanie also recalled her mother’s fondness for art, especailly drawing and writing.

Mrs. Bunn is survived by her husband Hallet C. Bunn of Amityville; her daughter Sherrill Lee and her husband George of Amityville; her son Tony Calcote and his wife Theresa of California; her daughters Stephanie of Lindenhurst, Linda of West Islip, and Barbara Gwynn of Lindenhurst; and her sons Carl and Christopher of Amityville. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Margee Bunn of Amityville; her brothers Chuck, Bobby and Stanley Caldron; her sisters Juanita Bordies and Rose Green; along with sixteen grandchildren and thirteen greatgrandchildren.

Her parents Helen and Joseph Caldron, brother Joseph Caldron, daughters Helen and Nancy Patty Bunn and her son Kenneth Calcote predeceased her.

"She always had a smile on her face, and brought joy to many," said her son Carl.

A funeral service was held at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Copaigue on Monday, October 28, conducted by Reverend Larry Jennings. Interment followed at North Babylon Cemetary in North Babylon. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Inc., of Amityville.
