•The Massapequa Public Library will host the fifth in a continuing series of creative writing workshops on Friday, August 29, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Central Avenue building for teen patrons going into sixth through 12th grades. The group will discuss next fall’s Teen Read Week and the possibility of a poetry coffee house where the participants will have the opportunity to read their work for an audience. Call 798-4607, extension 305 to register or visit the reference department at either building.
•The Massapequa Public Library, at Harbor Lane, offers the AARP "55 Alive" Defensive Driving Course, co-sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons on an ongoing basis. The fee is $10 per person payable by undated check to "AARP". Registration is required by visiting either Library building.
•A defensive driving course for all ages will be held the first Saturday of every month at the Harbor Lane building. The fee is $40 per person. Registration is required by calling Driver Improvement Programs at 1-800-734-7883.
•The Library offers strength training classes for seniors on Thursdays mornings at the Harbor Lane Library. Preregistration is not required, but is requested.

•The Farmingdale Public Library has changed its hours for the summer to 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday until after Labor Day.
•In the Gallery for the month of August are Japanese animation and pop culture by Brain Meier.
•The library offers a Homebound Service. If you are unable to come to the library because of illness or age, books and books-on-tape can be delivered to you. Call Mrs. Miller for details.
•On Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m. there will be a volunteer or Library staff member to help patrons who need assistance with ESL collection materials. The staff member or volunteer will be able to speak Spanish fluently and be able to assist patrons with ESL and Spanish-related issues.

•Sneaker charms, to be held Friday, September 1, 4 to 5 p.m. for ages seven to 11 years old.
•Sing Along with Irv, Tuesday, September 16, 10 to 11 a.m. for ages three and one half to five years old with parents.
•Creative Pencil Toppers, Tuesday, September 23, 4 to 5 p.m. for ages four to six years old with a parent.
•Story hour with Ms. Christina, Tuesdays, September 16, 23 and 30 and October 7 and 14, 10 to 10:30 a.m. for ages three and one half to five years.
•Mother Goose Rhyme Time, Thursday, September 18, 10 to 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, September 24, 7 to 7:30 p.m. for ages infant to three years with parent.
