Arthur Nemetz, avid golfer and fisherman
Arthur Nemetz, who lived in Amityville and is the father of two local residents, died August 4, 2003.
Born March 17, 1913 in New York City, he came to Amityville in 1938 when he purchased the Unqua Laundry on Dixon Avenue. He ran the laundry until the early 1960s when it merged with the Amityville Laundry. The business was then called Fabricare Services.
In 1970, he began a 20-year tenure with the Village of Amityville, working in the building department. He also served as the chairman of the Village’s Board of Appeals.
A member of Beth Sholom Center, he served as the Center’s first president.
In 1989, he moved to Delray Beach, Florida but continued to summer in Amityville. He was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman.
Mr. Nemetz was predeceased by his wife Sylvia in 1977. He is survived by his daughter Karen Rose and her husband Dr. Daniel J. Rose of Massapequa Park, and his son Jerold E. Nemetz of Amityville. Three grandchildren, Ann Guarascio and her husband Thomas of Massapequa; Kate Rose of Long Beach and Brent Nemetz of Manhattan. Also surviving him are three great grandchildren, Anthony, Sara, and Clara Guarascio of Massapequa.
Burial was in Wellwood Cemetery, with Rabbi Leon Spielman officiating.
