•The Massapequa Public Library at Harbor Lane invites you to come to its Downstairs Gallery and enjoy the art exhibit of oil paintings done by local artist Dorris Campbell. Campbell’s work will be on display for the entire month of October.
•The remake of Nicholas Nickleby will be shown October 16, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. as the Harbor Lane Library. This remake of the Dickens classic follows the adventures of a 19-year-old who becomes the head of the household when his father unexpectedly dies, leaving the family destitute.
•The Library’s Teen Advisory Board and Yack and Snack Book Group will hold a combined meeting Saturday, October 18 at the Central Avenue building from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The group will discuss Young Adult library program and the book selection followed by a discussion of Robert Cormier’s thriller After the First Death. Pizza will be served and a Barnes and Noble gift card will be raffled. Community service hours will be awarded. Call 798-4607, extension 305 to register. Stop in to Adult Reference at either building to pick up the book.
•The Harbor Lane Library will host a performance of The Chick Brain Challenge by Petra Puppets, Saturday, October 19, 2 p.m. The show will star Nugget, the mind-reading chicken; Itchy Louie; Stanley the Gorilla and more chickens. Tickets are required and available at both buildings.
•College financial aid expert Barry Fox will be at the Harbor Lane building meeting room, Monday, October 20, 7:30 to 9 p.m. to discuss the aid process. Included will be planning a needs analysis, filling out a Financial Aid Form (FAF) and negotiating with financial aid officers. This program is of special interest to high school juniors and seniors and their parents. Seating is limited, so registration is requested for this free program. •For the month of October the photography of the Syosset Camera Club will be on display.
•The poetry club will meet Wednesdays October 15 and 29, 7 to 9 p.m. All poets are encouraged to come prepared to read what they have written and to appreciate the work of others. All are welcome.
•On Thursday, October 16, 1 p.m. join Claude Weinberg, DC and discover natural help for many health problems without the use of drugs. All are welcome, seating is first come, first served.
•On Friday, October 17, the movie Catch Me If You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Bring your own brown bag lunch at 1 p.m. and coffee, tea and cake will be provided.
