Happy to say farewell to the belly button trend

There was good news being reported this week. Every school and hospital in Iraq is now open and operating and job growth is on the rise and scientists believe they’ve found the mysterious force that started the Big Bang. It’s called the cosmic jerk. But by far one of the best pieces of news we read was that the short tee shirt and exposed belly button for our young daughters is fashionably on the outs.

We couldn’t be more pleased. It’s difficult to see our young girls walking around with shirts around their necks, and pants below their hips with their underwear exposed. Despite what some people have maintained, it does say something about us,and it’s not good.

Most of what our young people emulate in fashion comes from magazine advertising or the runways, where food deprived models strut half exposed to promote a designer whose only interest is to make an impression and money.

It’s tough for parents and child advocates at all levels to counter such social trends. If there is one consolation, it is in that fashion comes and goes. Hopefully we’ve seen the last of those that promote indecency and that the pendulum will swing to more attractive, modest styles. For our children, and yours, we can’t wait.
