•The library at Harbor Lane will host an open meeting of the Friends of the Massapequa Preserve tonight, Wednesday, November 12, 7:30 p.m. Friends of Massapequa Preserve is a local not-for-profit organization of concerned citizens, dedicated solely to protecting, preserving and restoring the Massapequa Preserve. Feel free to join in at this open meeting and learn about this beautiful 423 acres of forest, ponds and wetlands in our community.

•The Library’s young adult department will host a creative writing workshop for patrons in grades six through 12, Saturday, November 15, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Central Avenue building. Register by calling 798-4607, extension 305 or visit adult reference.

•The Harbor Lane Library will host a program by Len Reifberg, Nassau County Elderhostel Ambassador, Wednesday, November 19, 2 p.m. Learn about this unique form of travel accommodation.

•The movie Harrison’s Flowers, will be shown Thursday, November 20, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Harbor Lane.

•In the Gallery for the month of November will be people and animals by Katherine Trunk..

•On Tuesday, November 18 and running for 10 weeks, 1 to 3 p.m., a beginner course in oil painting will be offered by instructor Rich Verity. The fee is $20 and registration is required at the reference desk and payable by check only to the Farmingdale Public Library. A supply list is available.

•On Tuesday, November 18, 1:30 to 3 p.m., motivational and inspirational speaker Howard Shurdut will present the interactive lecture, The Importance of You. Shurdut will speak about the value of your life and how important it is to share the legacy of your life with your children and grandchildren. Free tickets are currently available and registration is required. There is a limit of 50 seats. If you are unable to attend, please return your ticket to the circulation desk.

•The Amityville Public Library and the Amityville Artists’ Circle invites you to the Mural Unveiling Ceremony of From Salt Hay to Modern Day, Sunday, November 16, 2 to 4 p.m. A reception will follow. This 40-foot mural, made up of 10 individual panels, flows seamlessly to depict the history of our area, through artistic renditions of past, present and future landmarks. Included in this mural are the Newpoint Hotel, the original Bethel AME Church, the Massapequa Log Cabin.

•Ida Epstein, CFP will offer a program on how to avoid running out of money. This program will help you plan a successful retirement. The program will be offered Tuesday, November 18, 7 to 8:45 p.m. There is no fee, however, to sign up call the library.
