•Both locations of the Library will be closed Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25 for Christmas.

•The Harbor Lane Library offers defensive driving courses for all ages on an ongoing basis. The fee is $40 per person. Registration is required by calling Driver Improvement Programs at 1-800-734-7883.

•The Harbor Lane Library offers strength training classes for seniors on Thursday mornings, 10:30 a.m. Preregistration is not required, but is requested.

•The Massapequa Library’s Young Adult Department is pleased to announce the next meeting of its Yack & Snack Book Group on Saturday, January 10 at the Central Avenue building, 3 p.m. The group will discuss Richard Peck’s novel of 1893 Chicago, Fair Weather. Pizza will be served and several Barnes & Noble gift cards will be raffled. Register and pick up the book in Reference at either building. Call 798-4607, extension 305 for more information.

•For December, oils, watercolors and acrylics by the Suburban Art League will be on display at the Library.

•On Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, Volunteers from Senior Connections will be at the library.

•On Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m. an ESL volunteer will be at the Library to help patrons who need assistance. The volunteer or a staff members will be able to speak Spanish fluently.

•On display at the Library is a 40-foot mural created by the Amityville Artists’ Circle entitled From Salt Hay to Modern Day. The mural depicts scenes from Massapequa, North Amityville and the Village of Amityville. Call the Library for a schedule of viewing hours.

•There will be a Kwanzaa celebration at the Library Monday, December 29, 4 to 8:45 p.m. Celebrate African American Culture and history on the fourth day of Kwanzaa. There will be music, dance, poetry, storytelling and a full buffet. Feel free to drop by during any part of the celebration which is free of charge to all. Sign up is required to receive tickets to attend this happy community program.
