•The Harbor Lane Library offers strength training classes for seniors on Thursday mornings, 10:30 a.m. Preregistration is not required, but is requested.
•Local craftswoman Patricia Ginex will show patrons in grades six through 12 how to make and decorate their own cheeseburger, Friday, January 16, 4 p.m. at the Central Avenue building. A $6 material fee is payable at registration, which is underway at both building in the reference department.
•On Thursday, January 15, 8 p.m. Captain Jerry McGrath will give an instructional lecture on Sportfishing on Long Island geared to educate the fishing novice as well as the more advanced angler. Learn about the fish which inhabit our local water and techniques for hooking them on the rod and reel through the use of multimedia. Discussion includes bait and lure selection, techniques in fish finding, knot and rig tying, baiting and chumming techniques and safety at sea.
•Both locations of the Massapequa Public Library will be closed Monday, January 19 in observance of martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
•The Harbor Lane Library will host Lois Lovisolo with a lecture on The Grumman Corporation, Tuesday, January 20, 2 p.m. The informative and nostalgic slide/lecture covers the history of the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation as it moved from Farmingdale to Bethpage in 1937, including its subsequent purchase by the Norththrop Corporation of California in 1994.

•For the month of January Island Scribes will have a display in the Gallery.
•On Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, Volunteers from Senior Connections will be at the library.
•On Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m. an ESL volunteer will be at the Library to help patrons who need assistance. The volunteer or a staff members will be able to speak Spanish fluently.
•BEAT (Be Empowered Against Tobacco) will be offered Thursday, January 15, 6:30 p.m. for six one-hour classes, held once per week. This program is designed to education and support all participants and their families in their quest to quit smoking.
•On Friday, January 16, 9;30 a.m. to 5 p.m., AARP Mature Driving for age 50 and over will be offered at a cost of $10 per person payable by check only to AARP. Completion entitles participants to a discount on the liability portion of their insurance or removal of points on their license.

•On display at the Library is a 40-foot mural created by the Amityville Artists’ Circle entitled From Salt Hay to Modern Day. The mural depicts scenes from Massapequa, North Amityville and the Village of Amityville. Call the Library for a schedule of viewing hours.
