Birch Lane 3rd grade student receives Spirit Award in soccer
Nicole Mahin is eight years old and in the third grade at Massapequa’s Birch Lane School. She has been playing soccer in Massapequa since the age of five. Nicole was selected for the developmental team last spring and continues to play in their regular league. Her enthusiasm and love of the sport has led her to additional training with her Coach Bill at Kaz Gungor’s United States Academy of Soccer in Lindenhurst.
The Lindenhurst Soccer Club conducted its Fifth Annual Indoor Tournament on January 30 where Nicole was the first recipient of the newly created Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is given to the player who exemplifies, skill, talent and overall good sportsmanship.
Nicole also enjoys basketball, tennis, golf, skating, skiing, reading and traveling with her parents Sharon and Brian Mahin.
Nicole’s soccer idol is Olympic star Mia Hamm, who she hopes to someday follow in her footsteps to both attend University of North Carolina as well as the Olympics.
