Unqua school students in Massapequa participate in national circus project

Physical Education classes at Unqua Elementary School in Massapequa were given a treat in February – the chance to enhance their physical skills and have a ball doing it. Through the National Circus Project, Unqua’s physical education curriculum was brought to life, as students learned basic circus ground skills, such as juggling scarves and tennis balls, using a Chinese yo-yo and devilsticks, plate spinning and various forms of balance. Practicing these skills helps students develop good hand-eye coordination and motor skills. They learn and have fun at the same time while working on their individual skill levels through practice and repetition. Unqua Physical Education teachers Michael Dellicurti and Melissa Arcuri agree that this program is invaluable for students, and lays the foundation for positive attitudes towards physical fitness.
