In response to ‘waste of good money’ electronic sign in front of the Massapequa firehouse
Dear Editor:
In response to the letter published in the April 27 issue of the Post, I want to assure the community that there is no "waste of good money" for the electronic sign in front of the firehouse on Front Street. The fire department has used signs in front of all its firehouses for a very long time to encourage community members to volunteer for membership in the firehouse, to announce Fire Prevention Week, to announced a fund drive and other important community messages. The fact that it is electronic rather than the signs that have to be changed for each announcement by hand makes no difference in the importance of using signs to alert the community as to what is occurring in the fire department. I can assure the community that every expense involved with the firehouse is a well thought out and approved plan, never involving a hasty decision. I hope that as citizens of the Massapequas pass those signs, they read and appreciate the messages being expressed.
Mike Hanna,
Commissioner
Massapequa Fire Department
