Mejias signs landmark law that bans toxic wood

Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-North Massapequa) and Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi recently signed a landmark law banning the sale of arsenic-treated wood for residential use. The EPA has classified arsenic as a known human carcinogen linked to birth defects, cardiovascular, immune and nervous system damage. The proposed law would prohibit the use of CCA treated wood for new play sets and prohibit the sale of arsenic treated wood or wood products for residential purposes. Proximity of building to nearby homes, and other issues, has residents concerned about building on 1129 North Broadway.
