Burns Park in Massapequa Park, Sunday, June 11 as the Massapequa Lacrosse Club, MLC,hosts its first tournament to help raise money for Juvenile Diabetes. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Juvenile diabetes is a devastating disease both for the individuals afflicted and their families. That is one reason why President George W. Bush named November 2005 as diabetes month and increased the amount of money that was budgeted for juvenile diabetes research.

The tournament is designed to help raise public awareness about the disease and to raise money to find a cure. To date more than 1,500 children and 60 teams will participate in the event and hundreds of donations from individuals, families and corporations have come from around the country.

The kickoff ceremony is at 11 a.m. in addition to having Covais sing the national anthem, elected officials will join with participants for a walk around the park.

Photographs will be taken with Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor's Cup which everyone is competing for.
