Birch Lane Students Participate in Unique Artistic Experience
Art students in Dorothy Barry's classes at Birch Lane Elementary School in Massapequa were given the unique opportunity to showcase their talents in the New York State Portfolio Project sponsored by the New York State Art Teachers Association. The NYSATA is a non-profit, professional organization founded in 1948 for the purpose of advancing the cause of art education.
Barry chose five students, based on their talent, interest, and passion for art, to attend the adjudication at the C.W. Post Tilles Center on May 21 and 22. The students' work was on display alongside other young artists from across New York state.
In addition to entering four pieces of their artwork for their portfolios, students will also created two written pieces: an artistic statement, and a critical analysis/reflection paper on their work. "I am so happy to be able to recommend these talented individuals for the Portfolio Project," Barry stated. "They are extremely dedicated and talented and deserve to be recognized."
Shown, left to right, standing, are Megan Dawideit, John McDonald and Amanda Gray and kneeling are Mark Hendel and Dyllan Gold.
