Fourth grade student Julie Cardillo champion in NYS Empire games

Julie Cardillo, a 10-year-old fourth grade student from Albany Avenue School in North Massapequa, was a true champion at the recent New York State Empire Games for the Physically Challenged. Julie won one gold medal, two silver medals, a bronze medal and a fourth place ribbon for club throw, discus, distance kick and precision throw respectively.

Julie's mom, Michele Iuliucci said "I hope my daughter Julie's victory can serve as an inspiration for other children with special needs and the parents who work hard to support them every day."

The Empire Games for the Physically Challenged were held at M i t c h e l l Field. The games offer young athletes ages five to 21, who have physical challenges, an opportunity to compete in a variety of adapted sports. The games are promoted by the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation.
