National statistics confirm that one in five girls and one in ten boys are sexually abused before they reach adulthood, but less than 35 percent of these sexual assaults are reported to authorities. In response to this alarming find, Assemblyman Joseph Saladino today announced that he will host a parent training seminar tonight, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 in conjunction with the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect. The program will be held at the Farmingdale Public Library, 116 Merritts Rd.

Protecting our Children from Sexual Predators is aimed at helping parents understand the danger that sexual predators pose, as well as ways to protect children.

"Too often in the news today, we hear about a child who falls prey to a sexual predator. It is our duty and right as parents to protect our children. This seminar is an important step in learning about potential threats and tips on how to keep our children safe," Saladino noted.

In addition, participants will hear from a Long Island mother whose daughter was sexually abused by a family member and received counseling, only to be lured over the Internet and abused again.
