Albin S. Borysewicz, Republic / Grumman Engineer

Albin Borysewicz, 79, a Massapequa Park resident and structural engineer who worked for Republic Aviation and Grumman Aerospace, died August 15, 2006. His name is one of the many listed on a plaque that sits on the moon, according to his family.

During his career as an

engineer, he worked on

the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory, the F-14 Tomcat, the LEM Lunar Module and the Space Shuttle. He also introduced the art of casting plane parts to Grumman and worked on many other projects.

Born June 29, 1927 in Garfield, N.J., he served in the Army and later lived in Massapequa Park for 52 years, most recently on South East Park Drive. He was an avid Elks member and a volunteer at St. David's Church.

According to his companion, Rita, he enjoyed swimming and garage sale bargain hunting and made friends everywhere he went.

"He was also a wonderful, gifted cook who could make everything from pasta to cakes," she said.

Mr. Borysewicz leaves behind his companion of 13 years, Rita Coughlin; his children: Karen Buller and Gary; his grandchildren: Diana, Jessica, Ashley, Paige, Ariana and Vincent; his great grandchildren: Taylor, Matthew, Damien and Brian; as well as many other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam, and his brother.

Mr. Borysewicz reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home,1050 Park Boulevard, Massapequa Park on August 17, 2006. A religious service was held on August 18, 2006 followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery.
