Peter G. Leis, longtime Copiague resident and driver for a Massapequa florist
Longtime Copiague resident Peter G. Leis, who worked as a delivery person in Massapequa, died July 26, 2006. He was 74 years old.
The driver who worked for Bayview Florist & Montage on Sunrise Highway will be remembered by his "second family" for his sense of humor, his honesty and his loving advice.
Mr.Leis lived on W aldo Street for 42 years and was retired from the New York City Transit Authority Power Department.
"We called him "Grumpy" and he loved the nickname so much he wore a grumpy hat and tee shirt," said Mark Marrazzo, Bayview owner who added that Mr. Leis was actually caring and happy go-lucky.
"He was an amazing man who will be dearly missed."
In his spare time, Mr. Leis rooted for the Rangers and Yankees sports teams, loved to watch old movies and visit with his beloved family. He was an avid cook who grew a lot of the ingredients for his revered Italian meals from scratch, in his garden.
Mr. Leis leaves behind his children: Theresa, Linda and Peter; his grandchildren: Jenna and Sam; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine.
Mr. Leis was privately interred by his family.
