Take out your social calendar. Here's a list of pet events happening soon: Massapequa Post Pet Photo Contest: "How cute is your pet?" The Massapequa Post wants to know. Submit a photo of your precious pet by Oct.20 with your name, address, and phone number on the back. You can either mail your picture to the Massapequa Post at: 1045B Park Blvd. Massapequa Park, NY 11762 or email it to acjnews@rcn.com with "Pet Photo Contest" in the subject line. All photos will be displayed in the Nov. 9th edition; and one lucky participant, chosen by raffle, will win a family pack of 5 tickets to the Pet Expo at the Nassau Coliseum in November. Look for the ad in this week's Massapequa Post with more details.

Daisy, the Beagle Daisy, the Beagle Pet Adoption Day at Islip Town Animal Shelter: This Sat. Sept. 23rd, rain or shine, from 10 to 3 at the shelter210 S. Denver Ave. Bay Shore. Besides the fabulous dogs and cats for adoption, there will be music, exhibitors, and vendors, including a petting zoo and animal acts. Agility /obedience demos courtesy of the smart canines from DoggieU Inc. (my Afghan's alma mater). Come see reps from Parrot Club, the NYC Transportation Authority K-9 Unit, LI Cat Fanciers, and other groups. Call 631-224-5660 for details.

Jewel, the Cockerpoo Jewel, the Cockerpoo Dog Safety at N. Babylon Library: On Thurs. Sept. 28th from 78 p.m., I'll be doing a "dog bite prevention" family program with my Beauty Queen, as the demo pseudo attack dog. If time permits, I'll also talk about shelter adoptions and share an animal-theme bibliography of children's literature. Donations of canned pet food and evaporated milk for Babylon Town Shelter are being accepted at the library all month. Call 631-669-4020.

Gimme Shelter Rock & Rescue Concert in NYC: On Wed. Oct. 4th from 7 pm to 1 am at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel, 363 W. 16th St (@9th Ave.).a rock benefit to support the Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals, the ASPCA, and their goal to make all city shelters no-kill by 2010. Show features the Beastie Boys, Blue Oyster Cult, Debbie Harry, Marshall Crenshaw and many more. $50 for general admission. Visit: www.rational-animal.org.

Snoopy's DogFest at SUNY Farmingdale: On Sat. Oct. 14th from 11 to 3 the big canine event is back to support Canine Companions for Independence. It's fabulous festival to celebrate man's best friend. Many organizations present, plus a dog walk-athon, canine costume parade, BBQ, and lots of raffles. Call: 1-800-572BARK. Last Hope 25th Anniversary Gala at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury: Tues. Oct. 17 from 6 to 10 a buffet dinner to celebrate Last Hope's quarter of a century rescuing and rehabilitating LI's death-due pound, stray and abandoned animals. Tickets are $75. Call 516-486-3158. Two petite pups are our poster dogs at Oyster Bay Town Shelter (6775784) Miller Pl. Syosset this week. "Daisy" #511 is one of 2 female Beagles available, but "Daisy" has been waiting longer, over a month for someone to take her home. "Jewel" #891 is a 6 year old chubby Cockerpoo. There is a large selection of purrfect cats and kittens too. See more photos on the shelter's Petfinder site. Cats: "Argo"#482a black female and "Addie"#452a tabby and white with an adorable face share a lobby cage. Dogs: "Gwen" #860the sweet red Shepherd featured last week and "Sheba" #735the cream Shepherd mix. RewardLost small black Lab mix in East Islip on Main St. & Carleton near Allstate on 9/14. Lab/Pit mix, 4 years old, was in the car when a Waste Management dumpster dumper hit the car and broke the window. Dog panicked and fled. Dog is wearing ID that says "Bonnie"-Call 631-586-9404 or 631830-5864 with any sightings, please.
