Massapequa senior participates in Seidenberg Scholars Experience
Billy Alpert, a senior at Massapequa High School, was one of 31 high school students chosen from across the United States to participate in The Seidenberg Scholars Summer Experience 2006 at Pace University inNew York City from June 25 to 29. The program provided the students with a challenging interactive and intellectual experience.
The students were divided into teams and were assigned two challenges each, which involved alternative energies and renewable resources. Using LEGO robotics computing tools, each team developed workable solutions involving solar energy and wind power. The teams worked on their projects collaboratively in three-hour sessions called "design sprints." When not working on their projects, the students enjoyed much of what New York City has to offer. A few of their highlights were seeing an off-Broadway play, a harbor cruise, a visit to IBM and the Museum of Natural History. The students met with Ivan Seidenberg, the CEO of Verizon, who has given Pace an endowment for its computer science program.
