Brighter stop signs to be erected in Massapequa STOP signs in certain areas of Massapequa will soon be more highly visible thanks to a $25,000 grant obtained by State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto. "Currently, all STOP signs throughout the Town are reflectorized," Supervisor Venditto stated. "But, like many other materials, reflective sheeting is subject to deterioration brought on by the natural elements, which, in turn, decreases the visibility of the STOP sign, especially at night. Also, there have been major technological advances in the development of reflective materials. This grant, which Senator Fuschillo obtained through the New York State Department of Transportation Multi-Modal Program, will allow the Town to upgrade the signs with 3M Diamond Grade, a state-of-the-art sheeting used for traffic control and guidance signs and devices. This highly reflective sheeting is extraordinarily visible, as well as durable. "Along with pavement markings, traffic signs represent the first line of crucial information for drivers, both during the day and at night," Supervisor Venditto said. "STOP signs are particularly crucial. This grant to upgrade STOP signs will greatly increase driving safety for all who traverse roads in the projects areas." The Supervisor noted that the areas designated to receive the upgraded STOP signs include various intersections in subdivisions bordering Pittsburgh
Avenue, Carmans Road, Front Street and Park Lane; at the Clocks Boulevard intersections at Louden Street, E. Pine Street, E. Walnut Street, E. Cedar Street, E. Maple Street, E. Chestnut Street and Kenwood Avenue; various intersections located in the subdivision bordered by Carmans Road, Plymouth Drive, County Line Road and Nancy Place; various intersections bordered by Park Lane, Violet Street, Carmans Road and Pittsburgh Avenue; various intersections located in the subdivision bordered Southern State Parkway, Village of Massapequa Park boundary line, Violet Street vicinity and Carmans Road, including Dorothy Gate.
