Saladino offers free software to protect children from internet predators Assemblyman Joseph Saladino has made available a CD-Rom to parents for use in protecting children from sexual predators on the Internet. Assemblyman Saladino has partnered with the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN), a nonprofit center for child abuse prevention, to develop a CD-Rom entitled, Keeping Our Children Safe on the Internet. This CD-Rom, featuring the Computer cop Parental Internet Monitoring System, will help parents know if a child has visited questionable sites and whether they may have given out any personal information that a predator can use. "Assemblyman Saladino has taken a leadership role in preventing child abuse through education of parents and community officials. We thank Assemblyman Saladino for his commitment to our children." said Cynthia Scott, executive director of CCAN. With this new technology parents can monitor where their children visit while on-line. The program also alerts parents to 2,000 words and phrases that may have been passed from or to their family's computer. Parents can add their child's name and address to better understand what communications are being sent to potential predators. This "Computer Cop" program is simple to use, even for noncomputer literate parents and is absolutely free as part of Assemblyman Saladino's work to protect our children. Assemblyman Saladino has been the most outspoken member of the assembly advocating for strengthening Megan's Law and for passage of civil confinement legislation, which would keep the most dangerous sexual predators off the streets after their prison sentences end. He has recently drafted legislation to create the serious felony crime of luring a child on the Internet. "Too often in the news today, we hear about a child who falls prey to a sexual predator," said Saladino. "This CD-Rom is intended to empower parents, who are the first line of defense, against sex abuse and to provide them with the tools to know what their children are saying in chat rooms and to potential predators. It will help protect the most important people in our lives - our children."
To receive a free CD-rom, contact Assemblyman Saladino's district office at 844-0635.
