Oyster Bay Town Board approves 2007 budget

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto announced that the Town Board has approved his proposed $208,957,655 2007 preliminary Town budget.

"The 2007 Town budget is a fiscally responsible plan that makes strategic investments in parks, planning and the environment, and preserves the level and quality of municipal services and programs while maintaining a stable financial position," Supervisor Venditto stated. "It reflects the conservative financial practices and responsible fiscal management that have become the hallmarks of Oyster Bay Town government and my administration. It also places the Town in a rock solid financial position with excellent credit ratings...our recent upgrade to Aa3 from Moody's Investors Services and AA from Standard and Poor's...indicators that the Town is on the right financial path. All proposed expenditures have been thoroughly analyzed resulting in a cost-efficient budget that controls spending while enabling Town departments to efficiently and effectively provide the programs and services that Oyster Bay Town residents expect and deserve.

"A budget is not just about numbers, it's about people," Supervisor Venditto commented. "It's about young people, who now have an opportunity to purchase their first home under the 'Next Generation' housing program. It's about senior citizens, who can now stay in the communities they helped build because of our 'Golden Age' housing program. It's about our baymen, who can still make a living shell fishing because of the money the Town commits to protecting our waterways and environment. It's about all our residents, who are receiving the high quality municipal services, parks, roads and the other amenities that make Oyster Bay a first-class suburban community. The success of this Town isn't measured in budget tables, but how well it serves its people. This budget will ensure that the Town continues to serve its people well."

Supervisor Venditto noted that the day and night hearings on the budget were held on October 17.
