ToBay board to consider energy conservation regulations for new home construction

New energy conservation regulations for new home construction within the Town of Oyster Bay will be the subject of a Tuesday, November 28, public hearing by the Oyster Bay Town Board, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto, who announced that the Town will be mandating compliance with the guidelines of the New York Energy Star Labeled Homes Program.

"Energy conservation is more important than ever," Supervisor Venditto stated. "We all know that we must reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, but we are also becoming aware that energy conservation is an economically beneficial resource in its own right. By requiring all one- and twofamily homes, as well as multi-family dwellings, to comply with Energy Star guidelines, we will be offering homeowners a more affordable place to live by virtue of lower energy costs

and furthering the Town's commitment to promoting energy conservation."

Supervisor Venditto noted that the New York Energy Star Labeled Home initiative is sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and is available on Long Island through the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). The program encourages home builders to construct homes that use 30 percent less energy than conventionally built new homes.

The hearing will be held in the Hearing Room of Town Hall North, 54 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay beginning at 7 p.m. Following the regular Town business, the Town Board will be available to listen to public comment on any subject.
