You can become a community hero

A joint effort by the Massapequa School District and the Village of Massapequa Park to put into place a disaster planning program that residents would do well to learn about, participate in and even volunteer to be come a part of. This project puts Massapequa far ahead of many others in preparing itself to meet the needs of its residents in the event of certain types of disasters.

The plan is to provide a Point of Distribution (POD) in the community where vaccinations and other medical supplies can be dispensed in the event of an emergency. Already, the materials needed are in place, but a large part of the success of the program relied upon well-trained community volunteers such as you.

A training meeting is being held Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Berner Middle School Cafeteria, 50 Carman Rd., Massapequa. No special experience or prior health training is needed. All that is required is a sense of volunteerism and a willingness to step forward in the event you are needed.

For more information call Massapequa Park Village Hall at 516-798-0244, ext. 30. It's a good thing to do.
