Nettie G. Carswell, professional dog handler

Lifelong Massapequan and professional dog handler, Nettie G. Carswell, died October 28, 2006 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Massapequa. She was 88 years old.

Born July 17, 1918 in Massapequa to Anthony and Sophie (Dutka) Glywasky, she later raised her own family and worked in the family business, D.L. Car Kennels in Massapequa.

Mrs. Carswell leaves behind her children: David L. II., John A. and Annette (Candy); her grandchildren: David L. III and Georgette M.; her siblings: Daniel Glywasky and Lulu Horishney; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, David L. (Laddie) and her sister, Elizabeth G. Koehler.

Father Randolph Jon Germinder, rector, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Amityville, officiated at the Funeral Service at the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville, on October 31, 2006 followed by interment in Amityville Cemetery.

 

Madelen Gianninoto: 56-year Massapequa resident by Tiffany Elliott

Madelen Gianninoto, who worked at North Shore Hospital and lived at several different addresses in Massapequa for more than half a century, died November 13, 2006. She was 78 years old.

She moved to Massapequa in 1950 from Richmond Hill, Queens. She lived on Central Avenue, Unqua Road and Bellaire Road in the Biltmore Shores area, the latter of where she lived for 45 years.

For 40 years, Mrs. Gianninoto worked as a switchboard operator at Northshore Hospital in Plainview. In her spare time time she loved to cook and spend time with her family.

Mrs. Gianninoto leaves behind her children: Paul D. and Donna Mungo; her grandchildren: Ann, Samantha, Peter and Marie Mungo; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter.

She reposed at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Inc., Seaford, on November 15, 2006. A Mass of Christian Burial was said November 16, 2006 followed by interment in Holy Rood Cemetery.
