Free lifeguard training for teens with guaranteed placement meeting December 16

The American Red Cross in Nassau County (ARC/Nassau) provides health and safety training to thousands of people each year. Individuals pay to guard training to teenagers at no cost.

On Saturday, December 16, 10 a.m. the Freeport Recreation Center, 130 E. Merrick Rd., Freeport, will host the 2006 class of Project Guard. This meeting will provide students with a strong understanding of the program and the importance of becoming a certified lifeguard. The training and certification will be provided by ARC/ Nassau and be held at the Freeport Recreation Center. Any teenagers who successfully complete the course and become certified, are guaranteed a life guarding job for next summer at local pools, beaches and summer camps.

The prerequisites for Project Guard are: Be able to swim, 16 years old by June 30, 2007 and demonstrate financial need.
