Albert Scialla: international ship chandler & Veteran

Former longtime Massapequa Park resident Albert Michael Scialla died November 10, 2006 of congestive heart failure in Mukilteo, Washington. He was 86 years old.

Born in the Bronx January 10, 1920, he attended St. John’s University and proudly served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army during World War II, 194 Glider Infantry, 17 Airborne stationed in Germany. After he married 1st Lt. Katherine (Horrocks), an Army dietitian, the couple settled in Levittown in 1948 when it was little more than a potato field.

In 1954, they moved to Philadelphia Avenue in Massapequa Park, where they lived for 48 years before retiring to Washington. Mr. Scialla worked as a ship chandler, or supplier, in the international trade to clients such as Iceland Steamship, the Cunard and Holland Lines.

According to his family, he was an accomplished amateur photographer who loved classical music and traveling all over the world.

Mr. Scialla leaves behind his wife, Katherine; his daughter, Penelope of St. Paul, Minnesota; his nieces: Constance Serchuck and her husband Alan of New York, New York and Sue Meyers and her husband Alan of Bellevue, Washington.

After a private ceremony, interment followed in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
