Farmingdale students enjoy Willow Girl Puppet show

The second and third graders at Farmingdale’s Albany Avenue School were treated to a puppet show performed by John Potocnik and Carol Mandigo of the Catskill Puppet Theater. The show, titled The Willow Girl, was about a young Chinese girl who immigrated to the American frontier and found herself facing discrimination in a swirl of other immigrants

and cultures. However, she possessed a special gift: she had the healing

power of plants and had a secret in the mysterious spirit inhabiting a beautiful Willow Tree. When the Willow Girl met two Irish brothers, one generous and good, and the other selfish and unkind, they all discovered that the magic of The Willow worked in two ways. The children were enthralled with the puppets and the story. They learned lessons about discrimination, friendship and the power of believing.
