Senior citizen tax exemption brochure available
Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich advises residents that the Town has available an informative brochure to assist senior citizens in applying for the Senior Citizen Real Property Tax Exemption program.
"Individuals over the age of 65, whose income is less than $32,400, are eligible to participate in the Senior Citizen Tax Exemption Program," said Receiver Stefanich. "These individuals, who must meet certain other criteria, could receive up to a 50 percent reduction on the taxable values of county, Town and certain school district real property taxes.
Receiver Stefanich noted that the State must first raise the income ceil- ing before local municipalities can adopt it. "Supervisor Venditto has been in contact with State legislators about raising the income ceiling again so the Town can make the exemption available to more seniors, as he knows additional relief is still needed," he commented.
Receiver Stefanich noted that any resident or organization interested in obtaining a free brochure can pick one up at Town Halls North (Oyster Bay) and South (Massapequa), the Department of Public Works (Syosset) and at major park facilities, or write to the Town of Oyster Bay Public Information Office, Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay, N.Y. 11771 or call 624-6380. A copy can also be downloaded from the Town's Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com.
