The holidays are about caring

It's been a wonderful holiday season in the Massapequas, with many events and celebrations undertaken as a community. There were tree and Menorah lighting celebrations, Santa was on hand compliments of the Massapequa Park Village Merchants Association, the Fire Departments and the Village and Town. There was music, laughter and lots of fun.

In the midst of this, however, there was a terrible fire on Exeter Road that destroyed a home there. The family's entire life went up in flames and if there is any point of optimism it is in that neither the family, which was home at the time the fire broke out, nor firefighters were hurt.

The community, however, has come together again and efforts are underway to reach out to the family on Exeter Road to ensure that they know they have friends and neighbors who are here to help if necessary.

All of these events portray to us the spirit of Christmas, which is not only one of celebration but also of caring and concern for one another.

We invite your letters, ideas, input and guest editorials. This is,
