Jack Schuster: WWII Veteran and 55 year Massapequa Park resident
by Tiffany Elliott

L o n g t i m e Massapequa Park resident and proud veteran, Jack Schuster, died September 15, 2006 of congestive heart failure. He was 86 years old.

Born in the Bronx, he later lived on Charles Avenue in Massapequa Park since 1951. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, he joined the U.S. Air Force and flew the "Hump" over India, Burma and China delivering cargo to Allied Troops during World War II.

He later owned and ran a successful electronics business in Astoria, Queens for more than 30 years.

Mr. Schuster was a member of the Humps Pilots Association and of Temple Sinai in Amityville. He was well known for his sense of humor, was well liked by everyone in his neighborhood and had many friends from his childhood and military service.

Over the years, Mr. Schuster was a regular contributor to the Letters to the Editor page for the Massapequa Post.

"His comments were pointed and it was evident from his writings that he loved the country he served so many years ago during World War II," said Carolyn James, the editor for the Post. "We will miss his input, as will our readers, I am sure."

Mr. Schuster leaves behind his children: Jacqueline Grob of Flanders, New Jersey, Ric of Falls Church, Virginia and Aimee Hirschhorn of Summit, New Jersey; seven grandchildren; as well as other loved ones. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Jean.

He reposed at I.J. Morris Funeral Home, Hempstead followed by burial at Mt. Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale.
