William Armet: YMCA director and former MPK resident Longtime Massapequa Park resident William Robert Armet died December 8, 2006 after fighting a long, valiant battle with cancer. He was 84 years old. Born in Niagara Falls, New York on April 29, 1922, he proudly served in the Navy during World War II, based in Key West, Florida. Mr. Armet lived on Clark Boulevard in Massapequa Park from 1950 to 2002 until the 52- year resident moved to Catskill, New York, where he passed away. Before his retirement in 1978, he was the Director of the YMCA of Greater New York and worked out of its Brooklyn and Highland Park offices. An active man, he loved to ski, climb the Adirondacks and play lacrosse. He was also a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church on Park Boulevard in Massapequa. Mr. Armet leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Margaret; his children: Brian and his wife Joan of Cromwell, Connecticut, Diane and her partner Gabrielle of West Palm Beach, Florida and Robert and his wife Lena of Hunter, New York; his grandchildren: Daniel of Rochester, New York, Thomas of Somerville, Massachusetts and Teresa of Lexington, New York; his sister, Mildred Wiedmann and her husband Donald of Fenwick, Delaware; his nephews and nieces, Charles, Elaine, Janice and Marlene; as well as other loved ones and friends. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Yodack-Fox Funeral Home inGermantown, New York. A memorial service will be held January 13 at 1 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 100 Park Boulevard, Massapequa. Donations in Mr. Armet's name can be sent to any local hospice.
