Hugh Wilson: dedicated pilot & loving patriarch
Born June 21, 1921 in Elk River, California to Hugh and Annie (nee Ekbum), he finally realized his lifelong dream of flying when he served in the Marines. As a pilot with the Marine Aircraft Group 25 during World War II, he flew many missions in R-4D's over the South Pacific. He lived and raised his family on Grover Avenue in Massapequa from 1954 to 1973 and the family spent many wonderful summers boating, clamming and swimming on the Great South Bay. His three older children graduated from Berner High School in Massapequa. According to his family, whom he flew all over the world in his Cessna, he was a man who enjoyed life and was loved by everyone he met. Mr. Wilson was an avid hunter who loved water sports and was involved with MAG25 and thåe OX-5 Aviation Pioneers, veteran Marine groups. Mr. Wilson leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Helen (nee Moynahan); his children: Hugh Jr. "Buddy," Margaret "Peggy," Robert "Robby" and David; his grandchildren: Ali, Blythe, Brian, Christie, Julie, Katie, Kathleen, Lisi, Maddie, Michael and Nick; his great grandchildren: Mia, Holly and Cole; sons and daughters-in-law: Bill, Nancy, Rita, Emilie and Jennifer; as well as other loved ones and friends. A Funeral Mass was held by the family at Zion Lutheran Church in Fallbrook, California.
