Berner Middle School students collect food for the needy

In what has become an important tradition in their school, students at Berner Middle School in Massapequa collected 1,073 pounds of food during their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. This massive undertaking involved the collective efforts of students, staff and parents, along with Long Island Cares. This local organization provides emergency food for the needy, sponsors programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educates the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.

Shown in the photo is Berner's Principal Steven Scarallo, far left, along with General Organization co-advisors Mary Krebs and Jenny Gillam, and Long Island Cares Operations Manager Kenneth Zone. Shown are Berner students and General Organization Officers Jeremey Krebs, Joseph Zontini, and Amanda Ranieri who help spearhead this year's effort.
