Donald Woodworth: former Berner H.S. Principal Former longtime principal of the Alfred G. Berner High School in Massapequa, Donald Hoover Woodworth died January 13, 2007 at his home in New Bern, North Carolina. He was 82 years old. In 2002, he was inducted into the Massapequa Hall of Fame for his service to the Massapequa School District. A former English teacher and guidance counselor at Massapequa High School, he was principal of Berner when it opened in January 1962 and was a valuable member of the Superintendent's Reorganization Committee in 1987 that merged the schools. Mr. Woodworth served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was also a Navy Gunnery Instructor. He lived with his family for 30 years in Massapequa on Biltmore Boulevard, was a member of the Lutheran Church and a former Rotarian. He leaves behind his wife, Elvira of North Carolina; his children: Donald and his wife Nancy of Atkinson, New Hampshire, William and his wife Kathleen of Massapequa, Frances Weinbaum and her husband Peter of Montpelier, Vermont, Nanette Bronzino of her husband Michael of Greenville, North Carolina and Vera Rubeo and her husband Paul of Ulster Park, New York; his brothers: Alan and William, both of Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law Doris of Richboro, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren: David and Tomasen Weinbaum of Vermont; Michael, David and Daniel of New Hampshire; Tyler and Haley Bronzino of North Carolina, Christopher, Paul and Anna Rubeo of Ulster Point, New York; Benjamin, Evelyn and Theodore of Massapequa; his great granddaughter Monica Weinbaum, as well as other loved ones and friends. Mr. Woodworth reposed at the Cotten Funeral Home on January 15, 2007. A Funeral Service was held on January 16 with Rev. Dr. Ted Rust, officiating, followed by private cremation.
