Farmingdale's Albany Avenue School off to a "Smooth Start"

Students are shown getting started with their day.
Kindergarteners at the Albany Avenue School, Farmingdale, receive a lot of help during the first two weeks of school thanks to the Smooth Start Committee. PTA volunteers escort the kindergarteners from their buses to their classrooms, so they can learn their way and get comfortable with the routine. They also help out in the cafeteria showing the children to their tables, opening drinks and snacks, and how to buy lunch. In addition, they are in the classrooms at the beginning and end of each day to assist the teachers. In the morning they help unpack the backpacks, organize the supplies and make the children feel comfortable. In the afternoon they help the children pack up their backpacks, line up and walk with the class down the hall for dismissal. The teachers, staff and students all appreciate the extra hands.
