Farmingdale resident and teacher receives national award

For the second time this year, long-time Farmingdale resident and retired teacher Margarita Duncan Tomko has been recognized for her efforts on behalf of educators as she receives the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the AFT Women's Rights Committee Living the Legacy Award: Gold Recognition.

The national award was established to celebrate the 150th anniversary of women's rights in the United States, is presented to AFT members who have provided leadership and demonstrated interest in women's rights and maintained multiple decades of involvement in local, state and national AFT affiliates activity; worked in the trade union movement; acted as a mentor, coach and role model for other women and has been recognized as a leader in her own community.
