Harry Halvorsen: Longtime Nassau County marine police officer Retired Nassau County Police Department Officer Harry Halvorsen, a redsident of Massapequa Park died January 16, 2007. He was 72 years old. Born in Brooklyn, he was a proud Navy veteran and moved to Massapequa Park 42 years ago. Mr. Halvorsen was based in the Marine Bureau of the police department, patrolling county waterways aboard a patrol boat, for 32 years before his retirement. According to his wife, Barbara, he was a doting father who coached soccer for many years for both the Massapequa Soccer Club and in Berner and McKenna junior high schools. He was involved in several police organizations, the Masons and was a "tin can sailor" who helped restore ships at the Intrepid Museum in Manhattan. Mr. Halvorsen leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Barbara; his daughters: Corrine of Massapequa Park and Linda Kaplan and her husband Tom of Indiana; his grandchildren: Cassie, Tommy and Chloe Kaplan; his brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Sue Nuding; as well as other family members and friends. He reposed at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville on January 17 and 18, 2007. A Funeral Service was held January 19, 2007 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 147 Park Avenue, Amityville, followed by interment in the National Cemetery at Calverton.
